Yunnan Odyssey 9 Days

Day 1 West Coast – Hong Kong
Depart from the West Coast for Hong Kong.

Featured Excursions: The Green Lake, Flower and Pet Market

Connect through Hong Kong for Kunming, known as the “City of eternal spring” and the capital of Yunnan Province. Upon arrival, you would be met by your guide and transferred to the Horizon Hotel 5* or similar. Later take a leisurely stroll along Green Lake, a charming area of teahouses and small boutiques selling handicrafts and beautiful local paintings, followed by the interesting Flower and Pet Market.
Day 4 Kunming (B, L, D)
Featured Excursions: Stone Forest.
Today we will drive 86 km to the Stone Forest. It is a massive collection of gray limestone pillars, formed over 240 million years and eroded to their present fanciful forms, the tallest standing 90 feet high. Marine fossils found in the area suggest that it was once under the sea. The strange shapes create a unique “fairyland” feel. Remainder of the day at leisure in Kunming.

Day 5 Kunming – Dali (B, L, D)
Featured Excursions: Xizhou, the Three Pagodas, Old Dali Town
Today you will take a morning fl ight to Dali. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was the capital of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms, the political, economic and cultural center of Yunnan, and an important pass for the ancient ‘Southern Silk Road’. Travel to Xizhou Town to fully appreciate Bai style architecture. Enjoy the Folk Songs and Dances of the Bai ethnic minority while you are served the famous Three Course Tea. Then visit the Three Pagodas, symbol of Dali. We end our day in Dali with a visit to the 16th century walled city and one of the most interesting places in China to wander around. Accommodation at the Regent Hotel 5* or similar.

Day 6 Dali – Lijiang (B, L, D)
Featured Excursions:Black Dragon Pond, Dongba Culture Museum

Today, you will drive to Lijiang, Home of the Naxi Minority People. Lijiang is a 12th century wooden city with scenic canals against a background of snow covered mountains and is a UNESCO World Heritage city. After lunch, you will visit Black Dragon Pool, and the Dongba Culture Museum, which exhibits the Naxi people’s mysterious culture including their Dongba Pictographic language. Accommodation at the Guan Fang Villa Hotel 5* or similar
Day 7 Lijiang (B, L, D)
Featured Excursions: A walking tour of old Dayan Town

Today, tour the ancient Town of Dayan. This is one of the most fascinating places to walk in all of China. Dayan town was originally built in the 12th century. It is a maze of waterways and alleys of very old wooden houses lived in by the Naxi Minority people. You will want to spend the rest of the day enjoying yourself in this place sitting by a waterway, sipping tea and watching the world go by.

Day 8 Lijiang – Kunming (B, L, D)
This morning you’ll visit Shuhe Town, an ancient trade post for tea caravans between China and Red Sea. Although more than 1,000 years have passed, the township still retains its past atmosphere as a cozy village. Then fly to Kunming. On arrival, visit the Western Hills where Taoist temples and Buddhism Temples are found. A very beautiful lake view of the Dianchi Lake comes into your eyes while we visit Dragon Gate. A temple carved in to the mountainside. On the way down, visit the Huating Temple that has 500 sculptures of disciples of the Buddha. Accommodation at the Horizon Hotel 5* or similar.
Day 9 Kunming – Hong Kong – West Coast (B)
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
